Description
This post offers an excellent opportunity for someone with training in health economics, or with training in medical statistics and with previous experience in health economic analysis, to contribute to a range of research projects in the School of Social and Community Medicine.
The post-holder will join the Health Economics at the University of Bristol (HEB) team and will work on two research streams.
SMART is a partnership between the University of Bristol and the NHS Trusts around Bristol to develop collaborative research. The post-holder will work with senior staff in the School and NHS to undertake small studies leading to the development of grant proposals. The appointee will provide advice to NHS staff on incorporating economic evaluation into research grant applications.
ProtecT is a randomised controlled trial funded by the NHS Health Technology Assessment programme. The aim of ProtecT is to evaluate the most effective and cost-effective treatment for localised prostate cancer. Over 1,500 men were randomised to receive either active monitoring, conformal radiotherapy or radical prostatectomy. The post-holder will work with the senior trial health economist to prepare data in preparation for the cost-effectiveness analysis.
It is expected that applicants will have a good honours or Masters degree in a relevant discipline and experience of, or an interest in, applied research in NHS contexts and/or health economics. This is a career development post and training and support will be given. Candidates will need enthusiasm, excellent writing skills and to be keen to work within multi-disciplinary teams.
