PhD program
Entry level for doctoral students is usually a Master of Science degree or an equivalent degree. This could be either a German Diploma, MSc or other degrees thatare considered equivalent to a MSc. Definite clarity regarding eligibility can only be established after submission of a complete application and requires the approval of university officials. In case of questions regarding eligibility it is recommended to get in touch with the IMPRS coordination office.
Special cases
Candidates with an MBBS degree and medical students from Germany usually can only obtain a Dr. med. (Medical doctoral degree) but not a Dr. rer. nat. unless they have a co-assignement with the Graduate School of Systemic Neurosciences.
Likewise, candidates with a degree in veterinary medicine usually can only obtain a Dr. vet. med. (Medical doctoral degree) but not a Dr. rer. nat. unless they have a co-assignement with the Graduate School of Systemic Neurosciences.
Once candidates are accepted to the PhD program the coordination office in cooperation with university officials will identify the optimal strategy for graduation in the respective department for candidates that have an atypical educational background. If you fall into this category and wish to clarify your situation, please get in touch with the IMPRS coordination office.
