i was working in the control room that day. i was in the Air Force as a security specialist. i didn't know anything was wrong until the civilians started to panic. i remember looking over at the gas masks we had piled in the corner of the room. the launch site ground smoked for days. and i remember a high ranking officer told us the Russians might have been involved with this. i don't remember any news video that night or any other night. i would guess the Air Force wouldn't let that out until at least the investigation was over. i was VERY surprised to see this video on You tube. we had no internet back in 1986. this video brought me back to my days in the Air Force during the Cold War.
