POSITION: Ph.D. Assistantship
Applications are invited for a four-year Ph.D. studentship in
the area of computational atmospheric chemical transport
modeling.
Numerical modeling of chemical transport in the Earth
atmosphere is of major importance for atmospheric chemistry
research. It plays an essential role in addressing issues of
air quality, aerosol formation and evolution, acid formation,
and global budgets of greenhouse gases. The computational
challenge of modeling atmospheric chemical transport is
enormous since the system of governing equations is extremely
stiff, nonlinear and involves a large number of chemically
interacting species.
RESPONSIBILITIES: We are seeking a Ph.D. student for NSF funded
research project to develop and apply multi-scale Adaptive Mesh
Refinement numerical methods for atmospheric chemical transport
modeling. The work is computational and theoretical in nature
but with important implications for atmospheric chemical
transport modeling.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants should have a Bachelor/Master Degree
either in Applied Mathematics, Atmospheric Sciences, Physics or
Engineering or other relevant field. Previous experience with
Atmospheric sciences and Atmospheric Chemistry will be a plus,
though is not required. The candidate should be highly
motivated, goal oriented. Experience in CFD modeling, solid
background in numerical methods and programming skills in
fortran90 are essential. Preference will be given to those who
have previous experience in computer programming and algorithm
development and application related to computational physics/fluid dynamics.
