Dear Sir concerned:

Nonotechnology Program

ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSTDOCTORAL POSITION 2007

Takai Laboratory, EcoTopia Science Institute, Nagoya University

Takai Laboratory at EcoTopia Science Institute, Nagoya University in Japan is seeking a few postdoctoral candidates who can research our topics relating to nanotechnology.

1. Position: Researcher

2. Research works
Takai Laboratory is developing nanotechnology by using self-assembled monolayers (SAMs), vacuum ultra violet light (VUV) lithography, scanning prove lithography, plasma processing, cell culture, etc.
We are gaining insights into the functions of nature, especially living organism, and the forms brought forth by these functions, and endeavor to create rational materials processing that embodies these functions and forms as materials for human lifestyles.
We have also started a new project on plasma processing in water and solutions using ultra short pulsed power supply
We need a few postdoctoral fellows who can study one theme from the following research topics.

(A) Topics on molecular biomimetics
Developing new synthesis processes after learning the lessons from nature
For examples,
(a) Organic and inorganic interface structure formation processes;
Synthesis of inorganic materials on organic-molecular assembly, arrangement of organic molecules on inorganic crystal plate, synthesis of inorganic and organic compounds, etc
(b) Interaction between solid surfaces and biological molecules;
Analysis of the interaction of solid surfaces and biological molecules by scanning prove microscopy and its application to biological reactions
(c) Molecular design of biomaterials;
Designing new biomaterials theoretically and synthesizing them experimentally
(d) Layered structure control processes;
Controls of three dimensional and microstructures, design of hybrid supermolecules, recycling processes, etc.
(e) Compound function structure formation processes;
Invention of hybrid materials of crystals and polymers using external magnetic or other fields, simulation of structure formation processes, etc.

(B) Topics on plasma processing
Developing new plasma processes using short pulsed power supply including development of plasma diagnostic techniques
For examples,
(a) Plasma processing in water and solutions
Syntheses of new materials and sterilization by using plasma processing in water and solutions
(b)) Atmospheric plasma processing;
Developing of atmospheric plasma processing for surface treatment and modification, coating, and material syntheses
(c) Ultra fine particle processing related to plasma processing,
Developing ultra fine particle processing for surface nano assembling and coatings
(d) Plasma diagnostics,
Developing plasma diagnostics for plasma in water and solutions

(C) Topics on analytical processing
Developing new analytical processes using transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning probe microscopy (SPM), glow-discharge optical emission spectroscopy (GD-OES), surface plasmon resonance spectroscopy (SPRS), optical waveguide spectroscopy (OWGS), surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS), etc

3. Duration of employment: One year from April 2007 to March 2008. The renewable employment from April 2008 to March 2009 will be judged separately in January 2008.
