2013 Sagan Fellowships
2013 Sagan Fellowships
Carl Sagan The NASA Exoplanet Science Institute announces the 2013 Sagan Postdoctoral Fellowship Program and solicits applications for fellowships to begin in the fall of 2013. The application deadline is Thursday, November 1, 2012 at 4 pm PDT. The Sagan Fellowships will support outstanding recent postdoctoral scientists to conduct independent research that is broadly related to the science goals of the NASA Exoplanet Exploration program. The primary goal of missions within this program is to discover and characterize planetary systems and Earth-like planets around nearby stars. Sagan Fellowships are joined by two other NASA astrophysics theme-based fellowship programs: the Einstein Fellowship Program which supports the Physics of the Cosmos research, and the Hubble Fellowship Program which supports Cosmic Origins research. The proposed research may be theoretical, observational, or instrumental. This program is open to applicants of any nationality who have earned (or will have earned) their doctoral degrees on or after January 1, 2010, in astronomy, physics, or related disciplines. The fellowships are tenable at U.S. host institutions of the fellows' choice, subject to a maximum of one new fellow per host institution per year (see note on host institutions below). The duration of the fellowship is up to three years: an initial one-year appointment and two annual renewals contingent on satisfactory performance and availability of NASA funds. We anticipate awarding 5 fellowships in 2013. Please note that these are postdoctoral Fellowships only. Starting with the call for 2012 Sagan Fellows, we are accepting the submission of up to two host institutions. The purpose of designating first and second-choice institutions in the application is to provide the program with flexibility should there be several highly ranked applications at any single institution. Barring this circumstance, it is expected that awardees will use their Fellowships at their first-choice institutions. Note that letters of endorsement are required from each of the proposed host institutions. http://nexsci.caltech.edu/sagan/fellowship.shtml Дедлайн 1 ноября 2012 |

To be eligible for the award of a Fellowship, applicants should demonstrate significant achievement in their disciplines, commensurate with their age and experience. Please note that Bogliasco Fellowships are not awarded to students currently in a degree-granting program. The Foundation gives preference to persons whose applications suggest that they would be comfortable working in an intimate, international, multi-lingual community of scholars and artists. The following materials are required of all candidates for Fellowships. The written documents may be submitted in English, French, German, Italian, or Spanish. (1) The completed application form. (2) Three letters of reference, which must be sent to the Foundation as digital files. (3) A short-form curriculum vitae, three pages in length. (4) A one-page description of the project that the applicant would pursue during her/his stay at the Liguria Study Center. (5) A sample of the applicant’s work that has been published, performed, exhibited, or otherwise publicly presented during the last five years. Specific information for each page of the application may be opened by clicking the [Information] buttons at the bottom of the pages. We suggest that you read carefully this information as you complete your application. Bogliasco Fellows may be accompanied by their spouses/partners during their stay at the Liguria Study Center. PhD Scholarship in Physics at the University of Queensland
PhD Scholarship in Physics at the University of Queensland
Quantum Simulation with Neutral Atoms - Experiment Supervisors: Dr Tyler Neely and Prof. Halina Rubinsztein-Dunlop Study in sunny subtropical Brisbane, Australia, within the new ARC Centre of Excellence for Engineered Quantum Systems (EQuS – http://www.equs.org) at the University of Queensland – ranked in the top 100 institutions internationally. We have a vacancy for a promising domestic or international student for a new experimental project, utilizing ultracold atoms for quantum simulation (http://www.equs.org/quantum-simulati...oms-experiment). By lowering the temperature of an ultracold gas of 87Rb and 41K atoms, a novel state of matter known as a Bose-Einstein Condensate (BEC) is produced. These atoms will be then loaded into a configurable optical trap created through the rapid modulation of a tightly focused optical beam. With the ability to address and measure individual atoms in the optical trap, a toolbox for the simulation of magnetic spin systems will be realized. Immediate applications to the understanding of as-yet unexplained quantum magnetic phenomena, and unconventional superfluidity, are the direct goals of this research. This experimental project will allow for the development of diverse and transferable skills, including electronic and optical design, experimental system design and implementation, software design, and data analysis. This project will also allow for attendance of related international workshops and conferences. There will also be the opportunity to interact with other projects within EQuS, as well as the theoretical quantum atom optics group at the University of Queensland (http://www.physics.uq.edu.au/BEC/) The remuneration for this position begins at $25,007 p.a. tax free, and indexed annually. A priority top-up scholarship of $5000 is available for exceptional candidates. Interested applicants are encouraged to apply with the following information to t.neely@uq.edu.au: 1.Academic CV, including referee contact details (http://www.uq.edu.au/grad-school/academic-CV) 2.Academic transcripts from previous study (unofficial) 3.Cover letter Priority will be given to applications received before 15 October 2012, although applications received after this date will be considered. Please note the English language requirements of the University of Queensland graduate school (https://ppl.app.uq.edu.au/content/3....-proficiency-a...) must be met to apply for candidature, as well as certified copies of the relevant documentation. International applicants will also be required to apply for the IPRS and UQI scholarship schemes within the University of Queensland graduate school (http://www.uq.edu.au/grad-school/int...t-scholarships). Official transcripts and two letters of recommendation will be required on formal application to the UQ Graduate School. Additional information about the graduate programs at the University of Queensland can be found at (http://www.uq.edu.au/grad-school/). Prins Foundation Fellowship for Senior Scholars at The Center for Jewish History, USA 2013
Center for Jewish History Fellowship Programs
Through the Graduate Fellowship Program that began in 2002, the Center has directly supported more than 50 Ph.D. candidates as they worked to complete their dissertations using the partner collections. Enhanced in the 2010-11 academic year, when the National Endowment for the Humanities recognized the Center as one of 25 elite research institutions around the world by funding its Fellowship Program for Senior Scholars, the Center is now the first and only Jewish studies institution to receive such validation since the NEH program was established 40 years ago. In concert with the NEH Fellowship, the Center offers Prins Fellowships for international junior scholars, Undergraduate Research Fellowships to support outstanding college students, a Visiting Scholars Program to provide accomplished scholars the benefits of a healthy research community, and the Steinberg Emerging Jewish Filmmaker Fellowship to support the production of documentary films based on the collections housed here. http://www.cjh.org/p/36 Дедлайн 15 декабря 2012 |
